Medals For Jerzy Starak, Awards And Titles For Polpharma

23-08-2005

In June, Polpharma Supervisory Board Chairman Jerzy Starak was awarded two important medals. He received the first one — the Albert Schweitzer Grand Medal — from the Chapter of the Polish Medical Academy, and the second — the Korczak “Child is the Future” Medal — from the Business Centre Club.

Jerzy Starak was awarded the Albert Schweitzer Grand Medal during a gala symposium at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. This annual meeting of the Polish Medical Academy is attended by leading physicians from all over the world. Among the guests of this year’s symposium was Professor Günter Blobel, Nobel Laureate in Physiology.

The Polish Medical Academy aims to support the development of medical science in Poland. Jerzy Starak received the Grand Medal and Polpharma was named Patron of the Polish Medical Academy for their contribution to progress in pharmaceutical and medical sciences.

Upon being presented with the award, Jerzy Starak stated proudly, “At Polpharma, we have always attached great importance to research and development, and we have actively supported the development of pharmaceutical and medical sciences.”

Proof of this was the establishment by Polpharma of the Foundation for Polish Pharmacy and Medicine Development Support in 2001. Currently, the Foundation is funding 31 research projects. More information on the Foundation »

The Korczak “Child is the Future” Medal was awarded at the Lalka Theater on 12 June. The audience was packed with children. This time, Jerzy Starak was rewarded by the Business Centre Club for his personal involvement in activities for children’s and young people’s welfare.

“We often do not realize that it takes so little to bring some joy to a child, especially a sick child — to help him or her forget about the disease, pain and fear,” said Jerzy Starak when receiving the award from BCC President, Marek Goliszewski. He declared that Polpharma would continue its charitable activities. Three children’s dreams communicated to Jerzy Starak by the Foundation of Fulfilled Dreams — a member organization of the Polish Oncology Union, which operates at hospitals — were fulfilled. One of those was a helicopter trip — this was a great adventure.

The award for Jerzy Starak in recognition of his concern for children’s welfare is fully justified by the company’s involvement in charitable activities. We provide help not only for sick children who need special care, and for hungry and neglected children from pathological families, but also for those exceptionally gifted so that their talents do not go to waste.

We cooperate with many organizations and foundations that provide assistance to children, including Janina Ochojska’s Polish Humanitarian Organization that strives to feed hungry children in Poland. We donate medicines to the Polish Medical Mission as well as the Doctors Without Borders organization — those provide medical assistance to the populations of war-stricken countries where victims are mostly children.

Polpharma provides financial support for the construction and repairs of children’s hospitals in Poland. Recently, also as a result of our assistance, the much-needed Children’s Oncology and Hematology Clinic in Gdańsk opened.

The Korczak “Child is the Future” Medal is also an expression of the business circles’ respect for the company’s — and Jerzy Starak’s — social involvement.
