On 2 July, the sports grounds in Starogard Gdański witnessed the annual Polpharma Day outdoor event. This year, the largest Polish pharmaceutical company had exceptional cause for celebration: the 70th anniversary of its operations and the 5th anniversary of company privatization.
Polish Pharmaceutical Industry Leader’s AnniversaryThe history of the firm began in 1935 with the establishment of the Polish Chemical and Pharmaceutical Plant in Starogard Gdański. After it had been incorporated in the Polfa Union in 1959, the company operated as Polfa Starogard Gdański and only returned to its historical Polpharma name in 1995. The development of the company received the greatest boost after 20 July 2000, when it was privatized, using only Polish capital.
Today, Polpharma is the leading pharmaceutical manufacturer in Poland. Every tenth medicine sold in Polish pharmacies was manufactured by the Starogard plant. In terms of value, the firm is the second largest manufacturer with a market share of around 5%.
Polpharma is an expert in the production of prescription and inpatient cardiac, gastroenterological and neurological drugs. It also manufactures over-the-counter medicines. The Starogard plant is the leading Polish manufacturer of pharmaceutical ingredients. Polpharma has gained recognition in international markets as well — it exports its products to more than 50 countries worldwide.
