ISO and OHSAS certificates for Polpharma's systems

03-03-2007

The Polpharma SA Pharmaceutical Works received certificates which confirm the company’s compliance with the requirements of the international standards ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001/PN-N-18001. These standards refer to the Integrated Environmental Management System and the System for Management of Occupational Safety and Hygiene. The documents were issued by an independent certifying unit, Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

The Certified Environmental Management System facilitates the supervision and management of various environmental aspects. These include emissions, waste water, industrial waste, energy consumption and the use of natural resources. The system is also an effective tool for business improvement. It leads to an increase of operational effectiveness and reduction of costs.

The Certified System for Management of Occupational Safety and Hygiene helps to protect the most important and the most valuable assets of a company – its employees. The main goals of the system include identification and monitoring of threats, and constant improvement in the area of occupational safety and hygiene. An organized approach to these issues facilitates the provision of a healthy and safe work environment for the employees. It also allows to reduce the number of accidents and losses tied to production interruptions and employee absences.

What is the ISO 14001$1

The standard ISO 14001 sets the requirements necessary to build an effective Environmental Management System. It has been developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and is based on three main concepts: constant improvement, prevention of pollution and compliance with legal requirements. A company operating in compliance with the ISO must identify all influences on the natural environment, together with all aspects causing them, and next engage in improvement activities in the critical areas.

The POLPHARMA SA Pharmaceutical Works received ISO 14001 certificates issued by Det Norske Veritas. This is a certification unit operating under the requirements set forth by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and the American National Accreditation Board (ANAB). Those accreditations are recognized in all countries of the world.

What are the standards OHSAS 18001 and PN-N-18001$2

The OHSAS certification system was developed by the association of national standardization units, certification companies and professional consulting organizations. A corresponding Polish standard is the PN-N-18001 developed by the Polish Committee for Standardization.

The OHSAS 18001 certificates that the company’s management system meets the best practices in the area of occupational safety and hygiene. The document, issued by an independent certification unit, is a proof that Polpharma protects the health and cares for the safety of its employees, subcontractors and other persons present at its premises.
